Public Health

Professor Maxine Weinstein uses Zoom to connect her students with experts in the field of aging and health for her course, “An Aging World.” She incorporates several guest speakers throughout the semester, who Zoom into the classroom and who appear on the presentation screen. The Audio/Visual configuration in almost all Georgetown classrooms allows for the speakers to field questions directly from students and engage in a dialogue after a presentation.

She is able to record these speakers’ guest lectures and provide the recordings to students via a link in Canvas. An added accessibility benefit is that Zoom automatically creates a transcript. These recordings and transcripts may be used for study purposes or to connect students who may have missed the class.

Biology

Professor MC Chan uses Zoom for lecture capture. He logs onto a Zoom meeting for each class, records the lecture, and then shares the recording in his Canvas site. All Zoom recordings are automatically uploaded to faculty’s Panopto accounts and Chan uses the Panopto link to make these lectures available in Canvas. Students may then use these recordings to catch up on content or review for assessments.
