As part of the Initiative on Pedagogical Uses of Artificial Intelligence (IPAI), Georgetown is launching a Design Lab on AI and Transformative Education. The purpose of the Design Lab is to accelerate creative and thoughtful uses of generative AI (and other AI tools) in advancing holistic and transformative education. The Design Lab is the site for discovering, interpreting and communicating the feedback loop on AI in a Georgetown education as well as serving as a community of practice engaging faculty, students, staff, alumni, and practitioners from all fields.

The ultimate goal of the Georgetown Design Lab on AI and Transformative Education is to flip the conversation about AI and education. Instead of asking, “How do we cope with this disruption?” We want to ask “How can these new tools support an emerging future of education that better serves our students and society?” so that Georgetown students are adaptable, and able to navigate a world of fast-paced change and uncertainty.

Strategic Goals for IPAI

In the Design Lab, we hope to use the capabilities of AI as a tool with which to explore the possibilities of

  • Preparing faculty and students for the present and future education landscape
  • Fostering pedagogical innovation through the exploration of cutting-edge technology
  • Converging knowledge and practice
  • Actively document (every 3 months) the status, needs, and success
  • Pivoting based on findings
  • Developing and communicating a rapid feedback loop as a model; promoting sensemaking

Please join us for conversation on these issues at our second meeting on March 12, 2024 in Car Barn 315 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Please RSVP as lunch will be served.
