Nicoletta Pireddu (Italian, Georgetown Humanities Initiative) worked with the DRI team to develop Migrating Minds: Journal of Cultural Cosmopolitanism, an open-access refereed online scholarly journal that produces original research in several humanities and social science domains, and will provide a platform for scholars across the world to publish their interdisciplinary work.
The journal “provides a unique, international forum for innovative critical approaches to cosmopolitanism emerging from literatures, cultures, media, and the arts in dialogue with other areas of the humanities and social sciences, across temporal, spatial, and linguistic boundaries.” Pireddu developed the concept of the journal in collaboration with scholars from all continents, and the DRI program was an opportunity for Pireddu to create a home for the journal and scholarship. Pireddu’s vision for the journal was deeply rooted in the historical and evolving nature of cosmopolitanism:
She also observed, “it was important for me to be part of a global community instead of an isolated, scholarly member supported by a section of my own university.”
The articles themselves are housed on DigitalGeorgetown’s Migrating Minds: Journal of Cultural Cosmopolitanism collection as PDF documents, while the website creates a visible hub for the journal. The GU Library also assisted in getting an ISBN number for the journal, as well as DOI addresses for each of the articles.
For Pireddu, “pedagogy and scholarship are intertwined.” She will be incorporating the site and the journal into her humanities courses, where students will engage with the material and have opportunities to be involved in different capacities, from helping with the journal management to publishing their work.
The Digital Research and Innovation (DRI) program is a partnership between CNDLS and Georgetown University Library.
