Lauran (Syd) Howard is a first-year graduate student in the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown University and a double Hoya, having earned her Master’s in Liberal Studies in 2017. As a Graduate Assistant with the CNDLS Inclusive Pedagogy team, she supports the development of the Engelhard and LEAP programs. Syd also holds a BA in International Studies from Mount St. Mary’s University, with a concentration in International Cultures.

With over 15 years of research experience, she specializes in qualitative and quantitative methods in Social Science, Behavioral Science, Political Science, and International Relations. She is passionate about mental health advocacy and promoting the well-being of marginalized communities locally and globally. Syd’s research focuses on integrating Responsible Technology and Contemplative Practices within higher education to address conflict, trauma, and mental well-being. She also aims to pursue certifications in Social Innovation and Global Human Development, with plans to work toward a PhD studying the intersection of technology, behavior, and spiritual development.

When she’s not working or studying, Syd loves exploring new cuisines, meditating, reading, writing, journaling, enjoying music, the arts, and spending meaningful time with her close friends and family.
