Overview
The Learning, Equity, Access, and Pedagogy (LEAP) initiative invites any and all academic units across Georgetown University to partner with CNDLS to examine and strengthen the inclusivity of their approach to curriculum, pedagogy, and student engagement. By participating in the LEAP initiative, each unit works toward the goal of building and sustaining inclusive learning experiences for their students with support from CNDLS. This opportunity is available for all academic units across the university.
Focusing on a department-led approach to fostering inclusive and accountable academic environments, LEAP recognizes that impactful change is most effective when embraced collectively. We seek to engage entire departments in meaningful conversations about curriculum, pedagogy, and student engagement, tailoring our approach to the unique challenges and goals of each department.
What is LEAP
At the heart of the LEAP Initiative is a partnership-driven approach to understanding and enhancing the pedagogy and climate within academic departments. Individual LEAP facilitators, in close collaboration with their designated departments, engage in qualitative inquiry to uncover the layers of experiences, challenges, and aspirations that define the departmental culture.
For some units, this entails capacity building for better understanding and communication among faculty, while for others the work may focus on gathering feedback directly from students via focus groups and interviews, or creating dedicated time and effort for exploring disciplinary-specific resources. It can also include:
- examining department culture;
- developing discipline-specific teaching resources;
- developing mentorship opportunities;
- building knowledge and capacity around pedagogical practices
- surveys / gathering feedback / assessment/informed decisions
- building shared understandings around disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning
- bringing together community stakeholders
