Entering Mentoring

Day 1: What is a Mentor?

We will think philosophically and practically about what it means to be a mentor. Participants will discuss the goals of the mentoring relationship and will write a mentoring philosophy. We will discuss some expectations of both the mentor and mentee.

Day 2: Establishing the Relationship

Wednesday, May 21st, 9:00am-11:45am

We will focus on communication and project selection as foundational to establishing a good relationship. Participants will then discuss the effects of diverse personalities, experiences and backgrounds on the mentoring relationship.

Day 3: Challenges and Issues in Mentoring

Thursday, May 21st, 9:00am-11:45am

We will identify challenges to the mentoring relationship and discuss how to approach resolution of issues. We will conclude by re-examining the elements of good mentoring.
