Questions: Narrow Questions
Focused on Student Work

Working
from the two broader questions, Aaron thought of three "smaller"
questions that may help him answer the bigger questions.

Narrow
Questions
How do students develop the ability
to think historically?
How would students "show"
that they think historically? If he had an accurate picture of how students
were able to think historically in a traditional class, how would that
impact the online class?
How do students work individually
vs. working collaboratively?
Cohen believed that student interaction helps students develop independent
thinking. He also thought it important to know how a student works individually
in order to identify what they bring to the group.
What kind of learning takes place
online?
Prior to teaching this class,
students used the online environment to grab resources from WebCT. When
the whole course was online, what should he expect from students?
How
does Aaron's consideration of student perspectives help to narrow the
broader questions?
