Next Steps

The departmental phase will run over the next 12-18 months, implementing departmental grants designed to raise expectations about innovative curricular redesigns or curriculum revisions. In addition to the grants and the resources available to participating departments, other resources include:

  • clear models for course revisions and assessment emerging from this past year's work
  • series of workshops and information sessions offered by CNDLS
  • consulting and support services in collaboration with CNDLS to do assessment and development, including technology-based materials and tools
  • funding through grants that could be used for faculty and curriculum development workshops, bringing in outside consultants from the discipline, faculty time for summer development, or graduate student assistance in course design and experimentation

Grants will be awarded to departments who seek to work on some aspect of curriculum revision or reform related to the core curriculum or the major. Priority will be given to proposals targeting creative ways to deepen the student learning experience, including 4-credit or credit-enhanced courses, and other innovative and sustainable alternatives to increased seat-time or contact-time. The focus of a proposal could be on a single course or set of courses, or connecting experience across courses. Projects might include:

  • Redesign of a core course
  • Redesign of a new gateway course
  • Redesign of a capstone course
  • Integration of new technologies into any aspect of the core or major
  • Development of shared resources, tools, or enhanced educational experiences that serve multiple courses

The Curriculum Committee will vet proposals and make recommendations to the Dean.
