Matthias Oppermann's research situates itself at the intersection of digital media pedagogy, literary and cultural studies, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. He first joined CNDLS as a visiting scholar between 2003 and 2007, and re-joined CNDLS full-time in October 2011. Before returning to CNDLS, Matthias spent four years as a lecturer in American Studies at the University of Bielefeld, Germany, where he co-directed the eJournal Forum for Inter-American Studies and taught courses in American literature, American cultural history, film, new media, as well as didactics. At CNDLS, he has worked with the Steering Committee of the Visible Knowledge Project, coordinated the American Studies Crossroads Project, and is co-principal investigator (with Michael Coventry) of the Digital Storytelling Multimedia Archive. He is a member of the American Studies Association’s International Committee and has published widely on digital media, cultural studies, and student learning. His current research focuses on metacognition and the social aspects of learning in diverse institutional settings.
CNDLS' Graduate Student Associates (GAs) share our staff's enthusiasm for all that fosters the scholarship of teaching and learning. Every Graduate Associate is an integral part of the CNDLS team and participates fully in the atmosphere of open communication, teamwork, and sharing of knowledge and ideas. GAs dedicate most of their time to working closely with Georgetown University faculty members and students on academic and professional projects; they also participate in a variety of CNDLS and university-wide projects and events.
