The CSUS VKP team is composed of Julie Yen (English), Doug Rice (English), Janet Hecsh (Education), Aaron Cohen (History), and Jeffrey Dym (History). We meet regularly to discuss the pedagogy of teaching with technology. Each team member is engaged in a scholarship of teaching project that investigates the impact of technology on student learning.
This past year we had two primary researchers: Julie Yen studied the effectiveness of a computer program to help students improve their skills in literary analysis; and Doug Rice studied the impact of using chat rooms in creative writing courses.
Next year our primary researcher is Janet Hecsh.
California State University, Sacramento is the seventh largest university in the 23-campus CSU system, enrolling a multicultural student body of nearly 27,000 while keeping a commitment to small classes. It is California's Capital University. Students enjoy extensive research and internship opportunities in Sacramento, the heart of California government.
The University was founded as Sacramento State College in 1947, during a time of intense demand for higher education after World War II. It moved to its permanent location on the banks of the historic American River in 1953. In 1972 it was renamed California State University, Sacramento.
Today, the 300-acre campus is sheltered by more than 3,000 trees and dotted with flower gardens. It has nearly 3 million square feet of building space. Miles of trails stretch along its river parkway, linking the University and student housing with recreational areas such as Folsom Lake and Old Sacramento.
