Georgetown University's NHS was awarded a five-year Human Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) grant to implement the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Nurse Midwifery Diversity Education Project. The Clinical Communication in Spanish for Nurses Program, a segment of the Diversity Education Project, integrates nursing and technology for participants to develop their listening and speaking skills in a second language both inside and outside the classroom.

NHS students and faculty create, produce and edit online monologues and dialogues relevant to their clinical settings. The process of creating online material improves their listening and speaking skills in a second language and enriches their technology experience through the use of audio, video, and web-based applications. This promotes the development of their linguistic and cultural competence as healthcare providers to serve better the Hispanic/Latino population. Feedback from participants is overwhelmingly positive. The NHS team continues to expand its online resources, as well as to assign NHS students to work at clinical sites serving the Hispanic/Latino population.

CNDLS, through the LLTC, serves as a resource for web-design, audio, video editing and programming software at the direction of NHS faculty. The CNDLS/LLTC staff assists with programming needs such as language background surveys and data collection used in the evaluation of the online materials by NHS students and faculty.
