STATISTICAL COMPUTING
Statistical computing allows you to organize and present data
easily for class, conferences, or documentation purposes. Georgetown
University has site licenses for most major statistical packages
for Windows, Macintosh, and Unix computer systems. Teaching faculty
may receive a copy of these packages for free through Hoya Computing.
UIS offers training classes on software packages available. Individual
support or consultation is available through Ru
San Chen. Biostatistics consulting is available to Georgetown
Medical Center researchers through Franca
Barton.
SAS (Statistical Analysis System, Version 9.0)
SAS, a popular statistical software package, has many
powerful data management tools and a wide range of procedures for
statistical applications.
SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences, Version 11.5
for Windows and Macintosh)
SPSS is a comprehensive system for data management, statistical
analysis, and graphic tools. Modules include Base SPSS, Advanced
SPSS, Professional SPSS, and Missing Value Analysis. SPSS is installed
in the BACC classroom.
STATA (Version 8.0 Windows and Unix)
STATA has special features for analyzing categorical data. It has
been used mainly by demographic and economics researchers. STATA
8.0 Special Edition is designed for analyzing large data sets.
MINITAB (Version 13.0 for Windows)
Broad statistical capabilities, presentation of quality graphics
and an easy-to-learn macro language. Minitabs advantage is
its intuitive user interface.
MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory, Release 13)
MATLAB is a highlevel programming language for technical computing
and data visualization. The toolboxes include symbolic math, maximization,
and system control.
GAUSS (Version 5.0)
A mathematical and statistical computation system in an easy-to-use
environment.
Mathematica (Version 4.2)
Mathematica is a symbolic computational software popular in
both social and natural sciences research and teaching.
