PDA SUPPORT

Dahlgren Library works in collaboration with CNDLS and University Information Services to support the use of personal digital assistants (PDAs) at GUMC.

PDA Resources Web Site

http://dml.georgetown.edu/pda/

On the library's PDA Resources web site, faculty can find information on the following:

  • Medical applications
  • PDA hardware recommendations
  • Dahlgren Library's PDA Station
  • School of Medicine course schedules
  • PDA initiatives at Georgetown
  • PDA news
  • Medical PDA sites

The PDA Station in Dahlgren Library's Biomedical Academic Computing Center (BACC) provides faculty, staff, and students with hardware devices for installing applications and updating content on Palm and Pocket PC handheld devices.

There are two devices at the PDA Station: an XTND Access infrared PC adapter and a Clarinet EthIR LAN device. Based on infrared technology, both allow for the transfer of digital information to a PDA without the use of a cradle.

With the PC adapter, users can transfer PDA software from a PC to a PDA to install PDA applications and other files. The EthIR LAN device allows users to connect their PDA to the Internet to download information from content providers such as AvantGo and ePocrates.

The PDA station is located across from the service desk in the BACC (lower level of Dahlgren Library). Step-by-step instructions for using the station can be found at the station and on the PDA Resources web site.

In addition to the BACC, there is an EthIR LAN device for use in Caduceus Lounge, Med-Dent SW B3 (basement of Med-Dent).
