Medical Education Grand Rounds
The Office of the Dean of Medical Education sponsors a series to
bring nationally recognized educators to our campus to describe
the latest techniques and challenges related to pedagogy, educational
assessment, or curricular issues for faculty, staff, and students
involved in the educational mission. The series agenda is driven
by the educational strategic plan of the Office of the Dean of Medical
Education. The programs focus on a single educational theme followed
by a series of seminars and workshops in related practical topics.
For example, in past years, the Grand Rounds included evaluation
techniques by Dr. Louis Pangaro and Dr. William Ayers, former Vice
President of the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates
(ECFMG). In spring 2002, David Leach, M.D., President of the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education, addressed Competency-Based
Evaluation in Medical Education, and in 2003, Dr. Eugene Corbett,
Petersdorf Scholar in Residence at the Association of American Medical
Colleges, spoke on teaching clinical skills.
With the support of the Center for New Designs in Learning and
Scholarship (CNDLS), the Office of the Dean hosted a series of workshops
focused on topics such as clinical evaluation, evaluating professionalism,
and educational simulations. Attendees at these seminars are eligible
for a series of small project-related grants up to $5000 in the
areas of educational evaluation. For information about Medical Education
Grand Rounds, contact the following:

Office of Faculty Affairs
The Office of Faculty Affairs provides a support system for faculty,
residents, and postdoctoral trainees who participate in teaching,
research, and clinical activities at the Medical Center. Its goal
is to impart a nurturing environment that will allow each faculty
member to grow to his or her full potential as a teacher, scholar,
and human being.
The office facilitates the recruitment, appointment, promotion,
and retention of faculty and coordinates resources and opportunities
to support their professional and personal development. It sponsors

This office provides an array of services related to sponsored
research. Pre-award services include advising faculty about funding
sources, proposal writing, and preparation of applications in accord
with Georgetown and sponsor policies. Post-award services include
negotiating awards, establishing new accounts, and executing legally
binding documents.
Additionally, R&TDS conducts training on proposal writing and
funding opportunities and manages the Research Development Interest
