LANGUAGE LEARNING TECHNOLOGY CENTER

The Language Learning Technology (LLT) Center provides academic technology support and a technology-enhanced learning environment for faculty and students of foreign languages and linguistics. A division of CNDLS, the LLT Center provides audio, video, and multimedia resources through a technology-enhanced classroom, a faculty development space, and a student lab.

Technology Classroom, ICC Room 227

The recently renovated classroom provides 19 desktop computers, a projection and sound system, playback devices for a variety of media and formats, a “smart board” system, audio and video software, and network-based sharing features to facilitate new types of exchange and interaction.

Movable conference tables and wireless laptop computers give instructors the ability to reconfigure the classroom for a variety of activities.

Faculty Development Space, ICC Room 226

The LLT Center provides equipment and services for FLL faculty and graduate students to scan images and text, including negatives and slides, and to digitize, edit, and convert audio and video, including for DVD authoring.

Web development software, web application development tools, and multimedia authoring tools are available for instructors to design media-rich and interactive teaching materials with the help of the Academic Technology Coordinator and the center’s Academic Technology Assistants.

Student Lab, ICC Room 224

The student lab for independent study houses the LLT Center’s media library, which includes audio tapes, video tapes, and CD-ROMs to accompany the students’ language textbooks; a number of foreign-language films and cultural documentaries; current video recordings of news in many different languages; and various stand-alone instructional CD-ROMs.

FLL faculty members have full access to the media library, and can check out most materials to take home. The lab offers audio tape players, TV/VCRs, region-free DVD players, a digital camera, a digital camcorder, access to Georgetown University cable (which includes 9 foreign-language channels), a video-editing station, and 13 networked computers.
