CENTER FOR NEW DESIGNS IN LEARNING AND SCHOLARSHIP
The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS)
supports faculty and curriculum development at the University through
the intersection of content, pedagogy, and technology. CNDLS works with several university organizations to further this mission, including the
Georgetown University Library; University Information
Services (UIS); the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching,
and Service; Dahlgren Memorial Library; GU Writing Program; the Office of Planning and Institutional Research; and the Jesuit Community.
PROGRAMS FOR DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION
CNDLS programs promote active reflection and the development of student learning experiences
that effectively use technology to achieve defined learning goals. CNDLS works with
faculty from all of Georgetown's schools and colleges.
Faculty Colloquium on New Learning Environments
The Colloquium helps faculty rethink their teaching using new technologies and
innovative teaching strategies in undergraduate and graduate courses. Faculty
participate in a spring series of workshops on pedagogy, course design,
and technology. During the summer, faculty propose and develop projects that apply their new knowledge by implementing technology, new student work, or new assessment methods in one of their courses. In the fall, faculty convene to discuss their experiences
implementing their projects and course changes. Faculty receive a $1000 project fund to complete their course projects.
Teaching, Learning, and Technology Fellows
The Teaching, Learning, and Technology (TLT) Fellowships are awarded each year to
a small number of Georgetown faculty to develop innovative methods of teaching and
learning, often with a large technology component. Fellos redesign a course or part of a course, and
then reflect upon and document the impact this redesign has made upon student learning.
The Fellows meet regularly to discuss their course redesign projects and to learn
about new technologies for teaching.

Teaching, Learning, and Technology Summer Institute (TLTSI)
The TLTSI is a week-long institute in May where Georgetown faculty and graduate
students participate in thematic seminars that are oriented toward pedagogy and
technology, and afternoon workshops which emphasize technology tools and skills.
Participants can take part in any combination of multi-day seminars, round table
discussions, and hands-on workshops. Grants are available for projects resulting
from the Institute.
Graduate Student Programs
CNDLS works with faculty and departments to facilitate the progressive, professional development of graduate students as future faculty. We work with graduate departments to strengthen the mentoring and professional development that is already occurring in the department, such as helping to coordinate seminars or workshop series on teaching practice. CNDLS also offers cross-disciplinary workshops open to all graduate students as well as faculty. Each semester, CNDLS hires two graduate students as Graduate Associates to help coordinate services and programs for other graduate students.
