BLACKBOARD: COURSE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
Blackboard is a web-based course management system that enables instructors to easily deliver course materials, use discussion boards, receive papers and other student work, and administer online assessments via the web.
Blackboard is available to faculty for any class that they teach at Georgetown
University. Students are automatically enrolled in Blackboard classes based upon
information directly imported from the Registrar’s Office.
There are a variety of Blackboard support services for faculty, including online
documentation, training, one-on-one consultations, and an e-mail discussion list
about Blackboard.
For assistance setting up your course in Blackboard or using any of its features, please refer to the FAQs for Main Campus Faculty or for Medical Center and SNHS Faculty.
You may also register for a free Blackboard training course. Topics include Blackboard Basics, Blackboard Documents and Content, Blackboard Communications, Blackboard Assessments, and Adding Multimedia in Blackboard.

Communication
Tools
Communication Tools consist of a discussion board (including groups), email
functionality, and real-time chat.
[Blackboard] provided a forum for students
to grapple with material in a way that was visible to me . . .
[Blackboard] permitted mass distribution
of material more easily, enabling me to write and provide ready
access questions for each reading.
The students also wrote a paper throughout
the course of the term, submitting ideas, outlines, and drafts
to their discussion board to receive feedback and commentary.
. . . I will say that the students wrote truly excellent papersdue
in large part to their research on the Web and their repeated
drafts that were submitted in the discussion forum.
