COLLABORATION
Coding, as one step in the research process, is made more reliable and
generalizable when done collaboratively. It also contributes to the overall
project of building knowledge within a community.
Reliability
-
Ask a peer to use your codes on your data to learn
if in fact you both see the data in the same way. This allows more
general statements to be made of your findings.
Building Knowledge
-
As codes are discussed, tested among a few researchers,
discussed again, and theories of learning developed, researchers will
begin to see certain behaviors that transcend the specifics of a project.
It is in this place that the benefits of collaborative learning and
research will emerge.
